What is an error fare?
An error fare, or mistake fare, is a ticket published below the price the seller intended, for example after a human, technical, currency conversion or missing surcharge error. Flare cannot see a seller’s intent, so this page lists candidates: fresh observations at least 55% below their route reference.
Do airlines honour error fares?
Sometimes, never automatically. In a notice dated 8 May 2015, the US Department of Transportation said it would not require airlines to honour a demonstrated mistaken fare if the seller refunds the ticket and reimburses reasonable, verifiable out-of-pocket expenses made in reliance on it. The notice was presented as temporary pending a final rule. Elsewhere, the outcome depends on the seller’s conditions and local consumer law.
How do I book an error fare safely?
Repeat the exact search with the same airports, dates, travellers and trip type, check the payable total and conditions with the seller, then pay. Wait for the ticket number and confirmation before buying non-refundable hotels, tours or connecting flights.
